Scholarships
National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. Scholarship Essay Contest
Scholarships up to $1,000 will be awarded to qualifying students selected by the Greater Hartford Chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants' Scholarship Committee. The recipients of these scholarships will be honored at the 2nd Annual NABA Night of Stars" - A Scholarship and Awards Celebration on April 16, 2009 in the Rogers Auditorium at Aetna; which is located at 151 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, CT.
Eligibility: Qualifying students are those that are majoring in business at one of Southern and Western New England's two or four year Colleges and Universities. These scholarship awards are open to both undergraduate and graduate candidates. The awarded must be, at the time of the award, a full-time student in good standing. LULAC National Scholarship Fund
LULAC Councils will award scholarships to qualified Hispanic students who are enrolled or are planning to enroll in accredited colleges or universities in the United States. Awards start at $250. Awards of $500 and under are disbursed on July 15; awards over $500 are disbursed in two equal payments on July 15 and January 15. All awards are sent to the local LULAC Councils for distribution to recipients. Scholarships may be used for the payment of tuition, academic fees, room, board, and the purchase of required educational materials & books.

Hispanic College Fund Scholarship
The Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA) offers scholarships to students, in the US or Puerto Rico, who are pursuing studies in Accounting, Finance, or Business related fields.
The purpose of these scholarships is to encourage those students who have demonstrated academic excellence to continue pursuing their professional careers.
Application Due Date: The deadline to apply is Sunday, March 15, 2009.

Hope Initiative Scholarship
Hope Initiative (HI) wishes to recognize students with a demonstrated commitment to leadership and assist them in continuing their education. The recipients must be upstanding citizens, role-models for other students, and active member or leaders within their community.
Eligibility:
- One $1,000 scholarship each to4 qualified, full-time students (2 females,2 males) enrolled at an accredited undergraduate or graduate institution anywhere in the U.S. in Fall 2009.
- One $1,000 scholarship each to4 qualified, full-time students of Vietnamese descent(2 females,2 males) who reside permanently in the Greater Houston area
- Although it is possible for any one applicant to be considered for all of these scholarships, no applicant will receive more than 1 scholarship.

National Federation of Paralegal Associations, Inc. / Thomas Reuters Scholarship
Student must be enrolled in an accredited paralegal education program or college level program with emphasis in paralegal studies.
Applicants must attach to their application three (3) copies of the following:
- a letter of recommendation from the director of their paralegal education program, an instructor in their paralegal education program or an employer;
- a current official transcript from the paralegal program showing at least a B average; and
- a short (no more than four pages double-spaced) paper on the topic "Equal access to justice is a hot topic in today's society due to the current economic situation in the US. First, you need to research what ‘Equal access to justice' means and as a paralegal student, do you believe everything is being done to assist those individuals who need these services? How do you think you and other paralegal students could assist in meeting the needs of those who are seeking assistance?".

The Herbert Lehman Education Fund
The Herbert Lehman Education Fund is a national scholarship program that makes annual awards to outstanding students who meet rigorous eligibility criteria. Students who are interested in applying for college or law school scholarships are strongly encouraged to review eligibility criteria and program descriptions before requesting or submitting applications.
Herbert Lehman Scholarships, in the amount of $2,000, are usually awarded to students who are entering college for the first time and who will be attending a a four-year college as a full-time student. Students who are in their first year of college may also apply. These scholarships are renewable if the recipient remains in good academic and social standing and program funds remain available.
Awards generally do not exceed four years.
Eligibility: Herbert Lehman scholarship candidates are required to be citizens of the United States and must have outstanding potential as evidenced by their academic records, test scores and personal essays. They must be of excellent character with strong recommendations from teachers, community representatives or employers. They must demonstrate that they clearly understand their educational goals and academic abilities. Moreover, their community and school involvements should demonstrate that they have exceptional leadership potential with an ability to work well in diverse settings.
