INROADS
The mission of INROADS is "to develop and place talented minority youth in business and industry, and prepare them for corporate and community leadership". INROADS partner companies have included Target, Boeing, Deloitte and IBM.
INROADS Client Manager Eli Rodriguez will be attending meetings of various student organizations next week. He also plans to conduct a larger informational meeting in November during which he will provide interested students more detailed information. Scholarships
Women in Defense, A National Security Organization, established the HORIZONS Foundation to encourage women to pursue careers related to the national security and defense interests of the United States and to provide development opportunities to women already working in national security and defense fields. The scholarship program is intended to provide financial assistance to further educational objectives of women who are U.S. citizens either employed or planning careers in defense or national security areas. (This is not law enforcement or criminal justice.)
The Foundation focuses on the following preferred fields of study for awarding scholarships: security studies, military history, government relations, engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics, business (as it relates to national security or defense), law (as it relates to national security or defense), international relations, political science, economics. Others will be considered if the applicant can successfully demonstrate relevance to a career in the areas of national security or defense.
Eligibility: Applicants must meet the following criteria. No exceptions will be considered.
- be currently enrolled at an accredited university or college, either full-time or part- time;
- undergraduate and graduate students are eligible; undergraduates must have attained at least junior level status (60 credits);
- demonstrate interest in pursuing a career related to national security or defense;
- demonstrate financial need;
- have a minimum grade point average of 3.25;
- be a woman; and
- be a citizen of the United States.

Teach for America
I was recently contacted by Sarah Zdankiewicz, the Teach For America Recruitment Associate at UNH. She's very interested in recruiting top students from all majors and backgrounds to teach for two years in low-income areas while receiving a full salary and benefits. Here are the details:

To give you a little background, Teach For America recruits our nation's most promising future leaders of all academic majors and backgrounds to teach for two years in low-income communities and enact change in our country from inside and outside education.
Our corps members receive full salary and health benefits as any starting teacher. We have just begun our recruitment efforts on campus and we see a lot of great potential in students like you to be great role models in the classroom.

FINAL REMINDER!
UNH Writing Proficiency Examination - Fall 2008 Dates
After achieving 57 credits, all undergraduate students must take the Writing Proficiency Examination (WPE). No student will be eligible to receive the B.A. or B.S. degree unless this examination is passed. Bring a photo ID, dictionary and pens.
Fall 2008 Dates:
- Friday, October 17th from 2:00 to 4:00 PM in Kaplan 109, 202, 203, 204, 206, 207, 208
- Friday, October 17th from 7:00 to 9:00 PM (same locations as above)
- Saturday, October 18th from 9:00 to 11:00 AM in Kaplan 201, 203, 204, 206
