2/12/08

Sometime between 7:30 PM and 9 PM on Monday, 2-11-08, a student's vehicle was broken into while parked in the lot near Kaplan Hall. A window was smashed and a GPS unit was stolen.

GPS units have become a prime target for theft nation-wide. Be sure to record the make, model and serial number of your GPS, and remove it when the vehicle is parked. Some cars are broken into because the thief sees the windshield mount and assumes that the unit is hidden in the vehicle. Thieves also look for the telltale mark on the windshield that is left by the suction cup of the mount. There may be an alternative way to mount your GPS that does not tip off a thief. Many people are also installing car alarms. A car alarm, installed, will generally run in the neighborhood of $250.

If anyone has any information concerning the vehicle broken into on 2-11-08 they are asked to call the UNH Police Department at 932.7014.
