Parent Program

Description and Purpose

Many parents experience mixed feelings as their student prepares to enter this new stage in life. You may feel excited about all the educational opportunities and challenges that await your son or daughter but at the same time, you may feel a little bit apprehensive. In order to address your concerns and introduce you to the UNH campus, we have planned a special two-day orientation program just for you.

The parent orientation program has been designed to help alleviate some of your anxieties about college life. Parent orientation will familiarize you with our campus, its facilities and community. During Orientation, you will have the chance to meet and speak with representatives from various departments and offices on campus. You will also have the opportunity to meet informally with faculty, administrators, alumni, and students.

The freshman and parent orientation programs are separate in nature. Parents will need to make any final arrangements with their student prior to the check-in because they will not meet up with their student until the end of the second day.

The Parent Program is for mature participants; in consideration of your fellow parents, we request that you make appropriate independent child care arrangements.

The University is only able to offer on campus housing to students. To assist parents with their accommodations, we have provided a list of hotels located close to campus.

Due to space constraints, we must limit the attendees in the parent program to two adults per student. Please complete the Parent Orientation for SOAR section on the Registration Form with the names and contact information of those who are attending (Parents must attend the same SOAR session as their student). We look forward to meeting you and answering all of your questions concerning your student and their new life at the University of New Haven.
