UNH Hosts Talk by Spotify Executive on Feb. 26

WEST HAVEN, CONN. -- Steve Savoca, head of worldwide label management and marketing for Spotify, the world’s largest digital streaming service, will speak at the University of New Haven on Wednesday, Feb. 26.

Savoca’s talk is part of the Master Speaker Series sponsored by the UNH Department of Music. The talk, free and open to the public, takes place at 3:30 p.m. in University Theater in Dodds Hall on the main UNH campus, 300 Boston Post Road.

“Digital streaming has radically changed the way music is consumed and discovered,” said Guillermo Mager, UNH associate professor of music. “Steve will provide some fascinating and possibly controversial insights into the development of this arena and how it will continue to contribute to the ever-changing music and entertainment paradigm.”

Savoca will also discuss his career in the mainstream music business, his transition to the tech side and the current employment market in the music business.   

At Spotify, Savoca oversees global label relations and content operations teams, managing all music content as well as leading artist marketing and promotional activities. 

He has worked in the music industry for 20 years. Before joining Spotify, he served as global head of digital for Domino Records, where he built the company's commercial digital business and  infrastructure and developed its long-term digital strategy.

Savoca has also managed digital marketing and sales for Jive Records/Zomba during its teen pop era and held a senior marketing post at acclaimed Warner imprint, Sire Records. He started the label's new media division in 1997. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Music Business Association.
