Music Industry Giant to Speak at UNH on Oct. 23

WEST HAVEN, CONN. – Marc Reiter, a principal at music management company Q Prime, will speak at the University of New Haven on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 3:30 p.m.

Reiter handles the careers of artists including Metallica, Josh Groban, Muse, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Dawes among others.

The lecture, part of the Music Department’s Master Speaker Lecture Series, will take place in the University Theater in Dodds Hall on the main UNH campus, 300 Boston Post Road.  The lecture is free and open to the public.

“Mr. Reiter has a great deal to tell us about the music industry,” said Guillermo Mager, associate professor, of music and sound recording.  “He has participated in the conversion of the music industry to the digital age and has personally been responsible for the success of many iconic artists of our time.”

As project manager for Metallica since 1992, Reiter works closely with the band to plan and execute all of its album and video releases (including their current 3D film, “Metallica through the Never,” and helps with the operations of the newly formed label, Blackened Recordings. 

Reiter also coordinates the marketing and creative services for other artists such as Snow Patrol, Three Days Grace, Baroness, Cage the Elephant, Gillian Welch, Silversun Pickups and Jimmy Page. 

“I am both honored and excited to be a guest lecturer at UNH,” he said. “As a professional (or at least a seasoned amateur) who has spent nearly 30 years ‘in the trenches’ in the music business, it is my hope that I can impart some small degree of wisdom from my experiences that can augment the textbooks and lesson plans in the UNH curriculum.” 

Raised in Albany, N.Y., Reiter began his career at CBS Records. After CBS became Sony Music, Reiter became product manager for Sony’s Epic Records label working on all facets of consumer marketing, video production, media planning, marketing strategy and budgets.

At Epic, he worked with such artists as Pearl Jam, Suicidal Tendencies and Spin Doctors. 

Q Prime has been in business since 1982, and has offices in New York, London, Nashville, and Los Angeles.
