WEST HAVEN, CONN. -- The University of New Haven is now offering an online master’s degree in sports management through its College of Business.

The new online program, designed specifically for working professionals, provides students with the convenience of studying online while ensuring the quality and in-depth coursework of the traditional sports management master’s degree program for which UNH is known.

UNH’s master’s degree in sports management was ranked as the 4th best business-based program in the United States and the 13th best internationally by Sports Business International last year.

“Many individuals who would like to move forward in their sports-related careers by completing a master’s degree are unable to travel or move to campus to complete the degree,” said Marsha Ham, associate vice president and dean of the College of Lifelong & eLearning. “We are offering students the quality of a UNH degree in sports management online so that they can prepare themselves to become leaders in the sports industry without having to leave their current position or location.”

As with the traditional program, the online program integrates theory and practice to provide students with a more holistic understanding of the profession. The degree consists of 36 credits of coursework, which can be completed in as little as two years without ever coming to campus.

As part of their degree program, students in the program can specialize in areas such as management, technology, or sports analytics.

“While numerous sport management programs may focus on marketing, professional sports, collegiate athletics or ticket sales,” said Gil Fried, professor and chair of sports management, “our degree is focused on strategic business decision-making based on sound analytics and financial planning. We are the only program in the nation with the ability to teach how to use big data for critical sport business decision-making.”
