The University of New Haven (UNH) Tagliatela College of Engineering will host a free public lecture, “New Advances in Heart Pump Technology,” by Sue Salvemini, account director at Abiomed Inc. of Danvers, Mass.. Salvemini’s lecture is part of the UNH Fall 2011 Alvine Engineering Professional Effectiveness and Enrichment Program.

Salvemini will discuss how advances in heart pump technology improve mortality and the quality of life. Her company manufactures the Impella 2.5, the world’s smallest heart pump. Having worked in the operating room training surgeons on minimally invasive approaches to surgery for 16 years, Salvemini has spent the past five years working with interventional cardiologists in a cardiac catheterization lab.
