Managing the delivery of food and providing healthy eating guidance to health professionals, athletes, private practice clients, chefs, food service managers, food scientists, and consumers of all ages are the essence of the dietetics field, offering exciting challenges for students to prepare themselves for varied and exciting career opportunities.
Dietitian career opportunities and salaries are among the fastest growing in the country. The R.D., registered dietitian credential, is the only nationally recognized nutrition credential enabling graduates to practice the art and science of providing nutrition care throughout the United States.
Mission of the Nutrition and Dietetics Program
It is the mission of the nutrition and dietetics program to emphasize excellence in arts, sciences and professional preparation, and to prepare students to lead purposeful and fulfilling lives as nutrition and dietetics professionals in a global society through experiential, collaborative and discovery-based learning.

B.S., Nutrition and Dietetics
The University of New Haven’s bachelor of science program in nutrition and dietetics includes a strong foundation in the science of food and nutrition while emphasizing the importance of management and advanced practice. Courses include introductory and advanced nutrition, sports nutrition, the nutrition care process, nutrition through the life cycle, and community nutrition. Students gain experience in health and wellness facilities, food service operations, and community programs. The future registered dietitian will be a highly trained nutrition expert managing food and nutrition services, teaching in schools and industry, consulting with physicians and other health professionals or working in a fast-paced, specialized clinical nutrition, counseling or wellness environment.
