What:            

The University of New Haven (UNH) English department and "Elm City Review" will host readings and a Q&A session with poets Philip Memmer and Ching-In Chen. The event is part of the UNH College of Arts and Sciences Arts@Night program which offers learning and enrichment to the community through the presentation of cultural events.  The event is free and open to the public.

Details:          

Memmer is the executive director of the arts branch of the YMCA of Greater Syracuse and founder of the YMCA's Downtown Writer's Center.  He also serves as associate editor for Tiger Bark Press and is the author of three poetry books including, "Lucifer: A Hagiography," winner of the 2009 Idaho Prize for Poetry from Lost Horse Press, and "Threat of Pleasure," winner of the 2008 Adirondack Literary Award for Poetry.  Memmer's works also have been published in journals such as "Poetry," "Epoch" and "Mid-American Review."

Chen is the author of "The Heart's Traffic" and is co-editor of the forthcoming book "The Revolution Starts at Home: Confronting Intimate Violence Within Activist Communities."  The daughter of Chinese immigrants, Chen has worked as a community organizer in the Asian-American communities of San Francisco, Oakland and Riverside, California, and Boston, Massachusetts.  She also is a member of the Save Our Chinatown Committee, an organization aimed at preserving the archeological heritage of Chinatown in Riverside, California.
