West Haven, Conn., November 9, 2009—University of New Haven (UNH) Criminal Justice Associate Professor James Monahan, Ph.D., has been selected for the Connecticut Psychological Association (CPA) Award for Distinguished Psychological Contribution in the Public Interest. The award is given to members of the State of Connecticut Board of Examiners of Psychology who have dedicated years of distinguished service to the profession and the public. Monahan will be presented with the award during a ceremonial luncheon at the 23rd Annual CPA Convention on Friday, November 13, 2009, from 11:55 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the Courtyard by Marriott Hartford Windsor Hotel.
Monahan, a Madison, Conn. resident, serves as the co-director of the International Justice and Security Concentration of the Criminal Justice Program at UNH. He received his B.S. from the University of New Haven and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Florida State University. His work has been published in journals including “Journal of Offender Rehabilitation” and “The Journal of Social Psychology.” He is a licensed psychologist for the state of Connecticut and a fellow in the American Academy of Clinical Psychology. His research interests include community policing, prison reform strategies and crime.
