Chinese Artifact Collector Donates Collection to University of New Haven

What
Wellington Tu Wang, one of the world's foremost collectors of Chinese artifacts, will unveil "The Art of Rocks from Asia," the Wellington Wang Collection at the University of New Haven (UNH). The collection includes Chinese treasures that were scattered throughout Europe and the United States after China's Cultural Revolution. The event is free and open to the public.

Part of the collection will be temporarily displayed in the Seton Art Gallery and the remaining portion will be permanently installed in the Marvin K. Peterson Library on the UNH campus. Wang will receive an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree on May 23, 2009 at the UNH Commencement ceremonies.

Viewings of the exhibition are by appointment only, between Sunday, May 24, 2009 and Thursday, July 23, 2009.

Wang was born and raised in Hong Kong. Even as a child, he was a passionate collecter of Asian artifacts. While pursuing business in the United States, Wang continued collecting. His accrual of custom-made knives, historical bronzes, and high-quality jades, Yixing pottery, and Asian rocks led to his renown in the field; he is deeply respected in art collecting circles in Asia and has been widely published His collection of over 15,000 Asian artifacts includes custom-made knives, historical bronzes, Yixing pottery and Asian rocks.
