University of New Haven Announces Faculty Promotions and Tenure
West Haven, Conn., April 30, 2009- University of New Haven (UNH) President Steven Kaplan has announced that four members of the university's faculty have been awarded tenure and two have been promoted to associate professor, effective September 1, 2009. Tenure was granted to Dr. James Cassidy, criminal justice; Dr. Demissew Ejara, economics and finance; Dr. Christopher Sedelmaier, criminal justice; and Dr. Stuart Sidle, psychology. Sedelmaier and Sidle were promoted to associate professor.
Cassidy, associate professor of criminal justice and coordinator of the Criminal Justice Graduate Program at UNH, was granted tenure. He received his B.A. from California State University, Long Beach, his J.D. from Villanova University and his Ph.D. from Hahnemann University. His work has been published in journals including "Psychiatric Quarterly" and "Psychiatric Services." His research interests focus on the interface between the mental health system and the criminal justice system. He has conducted studies on the impact of treatment modalities and evaluating training programs to help police better deal with mentally ill persons.
Ejara, associate professor of finance and director of the Samuel S. Bergami Learning Center for Finance and Technology at the UNH College of Business, was granted tenure. He received his B.A. from Addis Ababa University, his M.B.A. from the University of Texas-Pan American and his Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Business. His work has been published in journals including "Multinational Finance Journal," "Journal of Banking and Finance" and "International Business & Economics Research Journal." He is a member of the Financial Management Association, Eastern Finance Association and Oromo Studies Association. His areas of focus include international finance, corporate finance, securities issuance, financial markets integrations and financial institutions.
Sedelmaier, assistant professor of criminal justice and coordinator of the Criminal Justice Department at UNH, was granted tenure and promoted to associate professor. He received his B.S. from The College of New Jersey and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Rutgers University. His work has been published in journals including "Journal of Victims & Offenders" and "Criminal Justice Studies: A Critical Journal of Crime, Law and Society." His primary research interests include crime prevention and crime analysis.
Sidle, assistant professor of psychology and coordinator of the Industrial/Organization Psychology Program at UNH, was granted tenure and promoted to associate professor. He received his B.A. from American University and his M.A. and Ph.D. from DePaul University. His work has been published in journals including "Academy of Management Executive," "Organizational Research Methods" and "Journal of Applied Social Psychology." His expertise includes workplace stress, leadership development, employee morale, supervisor-employee relations and emotional resistance to organizational change efforts.
