UNH Student Film Accepted for Hollywood Black Film Festival

West Haven, Conn., April 23, 2009-University of New Haven (UNH) communications student, film director and Spring Valley, N.Y. resident, Tommy Stanley III ‘09, has been asked to attend several well-known film festivals for the screening of his short, fictional drama, "Mind of Lo."

Stanley's film will be presented at the 10th Annual Hollywood Black Film Festival, June 2-7, 2009, and the Buffalo Niagara Film Festival held May 1-10, 2009. The film was also screened during the 4th Annual Macon Film and Video Festival in February, 2009. "Mind of Lo" has also been submitted for consideration by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, best known for its annual Oscar telecast.

"Mind of Lo" depicts the mind of Larry Lo, a child prodigy turned vigilante who is framed for murder. Once he is jailed, Larry must fight to survive as solitude and an unlikely voice threaten to destroy him before he gets to trial. Little does he know there is much more at stake than just his freedom.

Stanley's film was produced in 2008 as part of a Film Production II class project, his first time co-writing and starring in a narrative short. He will receive the UNH Department of Communication, Film and Theatre's Production Student of the Year Award at this year's student awards ceremony. He is currently working on a documentary series chronicling the history of Rockland County, N.Y. entitled, "Stumptown: The Untold Story of Spring Valley, N.Y."
