Pirates of the Caribbean move over: swashbuckling students in the first-ever Stage Combat class in the University of New Haven Theatre Department will show off their thrusts, parries, and lunges in a live sword-fighting skill demonstration. The class is lead by professional fight choreographer Bryan Steele, assistant technical director for the New York City Ballet and adjunct professor at the University of New Haven.

Details
A trained fight choreographer, actor, lighting designer and technical director, Steele has worked in film and theatre in New York, Connecticut, San Francisco and Los Angeles. He received his B.A. in theatre arts from University of California, Santa Cruz, in 1999 and his M.F.A. in theatre from Sarah Lawrence College in 2004. His fight training started with Richard Lane at the Academy of the Sword in San Francisco and continued with Dan and Jan Speaker at the Academy of Theatrical Combat in Los Angles. He has worked on numerous productions in regional and off-Broadway theatre, and was a pre-production fight trainer for the Oscar nominated feature "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World."
