Crime Scene Investigation and Video Production Among the 2009 Line Up
West Haven, Conn., April 14, 2009-Summer camps for teen-aged fans of forensics, aspiring film producers, and young sports enthusiasts are just a few of the many exciting and engaging summertime pursuits offered by the University College at the University of New Haven (UNH) beginning June 24, 2009.
The Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences, the College of Arts and Sciences, the Tagliatela College of Engineering, the Department of Athletics, and the Recreation Center will provide five educational and entertaining summer camps for youth entering grades 2 through 12. All academic and athletic camps are directed by highly esteemed UNH faculty or staff and experienced counselors, ensuring a positive and engaging experience for all campers.
In the Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) Academy, offered July 27-31, high school students gain hands-on experience dusting fingerprints, analyzing blood samples, and photographing crime scenes. CSI Academy provides a unique experience, with students teaming up to investigate mock crime scenes and presenting their findings using PowerPoint.
The Video Production Camp, July 6-10, provides high school students with hands-on experience in sound recording, editing, location shooting and producing short films and videos from start to finish. Conducted in state-of-the-art video and television production facilities, the camp incorporates all areas of production including understanding each area of the production process and learning necessary technical skills.
The Engineering & Science Summer Institute for Young Women, offered August 2-7, offers exciting, hands-on activities that will correlate with science and math coursework that attendees are learning in their traditional classrooms. New this summer, campers have the opportunity to either stay overnight at UNH or attend the camp during the day. The one-week summer program is open to young women entering grades 6-9.
Young children ages 7-12 will be introduced to various artistic and musical activities on the UNH campus in the Visual and Musical Arts Camp July 20-24 and/or July 27-31. Campers have interactive experiences learning about the arts in daily art and music-related activities, including drawing, painting, dramatic workshops, African drumming, and more.
At the new Charger REC Camp, July 6-10, young campers entering grade 2 through 9 will participate in traditional team sports such as basketball and soccer and individual sports such as racquetball and kickball. Alternative activities like fitness and arts and crafts are also offered. All program activities will take place in the new David A. Beckerman Recreation Center and on the state-of-the-art Kayo Turf Field.
The UNH Athletic Department offers several sports camps for young children and high school students. Soccer, football, and lacrosse are just some of the many sports camps available beginning June 24, 2009.
