What
The University of New Haven (UNH) College of Business will host a lecture "Health Insurance and Ex Ante Moral Hazard: Evidence from Medicare," with Dr. Dhaval Dave, assistant professor of economics at Bentley College in Waltham, Mass. and research fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research. The lecture is part of the College of Business Research Forum series. This event is free and open to the public.
Dave's presentation examines research on the effect of health insurance on health behaviors and focuses on the possibility that health insurance has direct (ex ante moral hazard) and indirect effects on health behaviors. He and his co-investigator, Robert Kaestner, of the University of Illinois at Chicago and NBER, have found evidence that obtaining health insurance reduces prevention and increases unhealthy behaviors among elderly men and that physician counseling is successful in changing health behaviors.
