University of New Haven (UNH) Professor of Mathematics, Dr. Ramesh Sharma, of Hamden, Conn., has been selected to receive the University of New Haven Excellence in Research and Creative Activity Award. Sharma was one of eight faculty and staff members selected for the 2008 Faculty Excellence Awards by the Office of the Provost. Each award includes a cash prize of $1,000 and a commemorative plaque.
The criteria for the Excellence in Research and Creative Activity Award include publication of research, scholarship or creative activity; which contributed to the recipient's discipline as a whole and displayed extraordinary creativity or novelty. As an Excellence in Teaching Award winner, Sharma will be named a Fellow of the Center for Faculty Development and invited to share his talent with faculty-at-large by giving at least one workshop in the next academic year. The workshop will focus on furthering excellence in research at UNH.
