Library Catalog | Books | Journals | Databases | Internet Resources

The Marvin K. Peterson Library has a wide variety and formats of resources for Computer Science research. This guide presents a selection of useful resources, both ours and the Internet sources we list. The field of Computer Science is deep and broad, and it is to your benefit to search as specifically as possible. You will note that the journals listed below have been categorized into more than a dozen headings such as artificial intelligence, database management, and computer hardware. Use our library catalog to find more resources, and again, make your search as specific as possible.

You can find this guide and all Library Guides on the library's home page.

Library Catalog

Use the library catalog to find circulating and reference materials, including books, audio-visual holdings, government documents, and periodical titles (for periodical articles, see the "Journals" section, below). Our catalog uses the Library of Congress (LC) classification system and subject headings.

LC primarily assigns two areas of call numbers for materials about Computer Science: QA and TK. Assigned call number ranges make designated areas more specific:

  • QA75.5-76.95 for Electronic Computers. Computer Science
  • QA76.75-76.765 for Computer Software
  • TK7885-7895 for Computer Engineering. Computer Hardware

Quick search tips:

Truncate with "?": comput? will bring up computer, computers, computing, etc.
-  Put phrases in quotes: "data structures"
-  Sort results by "Publish date descending" to get the most recently published items listed first.
-  Click on the "Bibliographic" tab to determine the LC subject headings for an item and then click on those headings as links to additional material with the same subject.
-  Always click on the "Linked Resources" tab to check for electronic access for single items. In multiple-result searches, the URL box at the right of the screen is a reminder to look for a web link on the next page (or click on "Linked Resources").

For additional search tips, consult the library guide on Using the UNH Library Catalog (OPAC).
