The Common Read and the First Year Experience - Reading is a Social Act
The Common Read offers first-year students an opportunity to enjoy a common reading experience with peers, engage in an academic activity, and begin a key part of the UNH First Year Experience. Each selection will be required reading for ENGL 1105 and ENGL 1110, two courses in the first-year writing sequence. Other instructors teaching first year students are invited to incorporate the Common Read into their classes as well. A variety of programming options will be scheduled throughout the first year to further enhance the Common Read experience. Look for an announcement about many of these during the first week of classes in the fall.
Students wanting to engage with others about the Common Read need not wait until fall to begin their discussions. Like us on Facebook to share your thoughts about the book and get to know your peers in the process. Be social: read.
To learn more about how you might approach reading this year's selection, access the reading guide, presented at the summer SOAR events.
The University Library partners with Student Services and Academic Services to provide the Common Read as part of the University's FIrst Year Experience.
