The Seton Art Gallery

The Seton Gallery complements the educational mission of the University of New Haven through contemporary visual art exhibits and educational programming.

The public profile of the university will be enhanced through rotating exhibits that reflect diversity within contemporary visual culture.

The Seton Gallery presents four to six exhibitions annually. Exhibitions are curated internally. Each season includes either a faculty exhibition or student organized and run juried student exhibition.

Preserving the permanent art collection for study, research and exhibition enhances our basic gallery arts management training of work-study students, independent study students and volunteer interns.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Nathan Lewis Artist Lecture at Seton Gallery on Wednesday, September 24th at 7:00 pm.  Please join us in listening to the artist speak about his work and take questions from the audience.
  • The reception will mark the opening of "Where Heaven Made Fun" a thought-provoking exhibition featuring the work of Nathan Lewis. This is Lewis's first solo exhibition since his New York in Feb of 2008.  Four new works have been completed for this show, including a monumental installation which incorporates a 16-foot boat. The installation is a response to his epic painting Till We Find the Blessed Isles Where Our Friends Are Dwelling, a contemporary remix of Leutze's Washington Crossing the Delaware. The work depicts the American flag flying upside down, forcefully speaking to the problematic role of the U.S. in the Middle East and to a sense of hope for the lives of the Americans depicted. Other themes present in Lewis's work are the manipulation of religion in war, the changing cultural roles of the African American and the Arab, man's relationship with nature, and the human quest for transcendence.
