The Marvin K. Peterson library has a plentiful collection of public administrative resources. Please use this guide to start your research. Keep in mind that what is in this guide is a sampling of what is available, and is not intended to be a comprehensive list of holdings.

Some helpful links:

UNH Library Catalog

You may use the Library Catalog to find books (both circulating and reference), government documents, and periodical titles held by the UNH library. (For periodical articles, see the Journals section.) The library catalog follows the Library of Congress (LC) classification system and subject headings. The format for the call number of an item will follow a letter and number arrangement according to the book's main subject.

    Government Publications

    Since 1971, the Marvin K. Peterson Library has been a Federal Depository Library, receiving materials from such venues as the Census Bureau, the Bureau of Economic Analysis, the Department of Labor, Treasury Department, Social Security Administration and more. Increasingly, government documents are available online; whenever possible the links to online documents are included from within the library's catalog. To follow these links click on the Linked Resources tab from the record of the item you are interested in and check the availability. For government documents that are not available online, come to the reference desk at the library for staff help in retrieving a print copy of the item(s) you need.

    Comprised of three modules: ABI/Inform Dateline specializes in local, hard-to-find information. Public administration resources for local city planners and municipal administrators may be found here. ABI/Inform Global looks at worldwide coverage of business conditions and management techniques. ABI/Inform Trade and Industry concerns itself with major industry trends and concerns.

    BNA Tax Management Library
    Produced by the Bureau of National Affairs, BNA Tax Management provides analysis of tax accounting on the state, federal, and international levels.

    CCH Online

    This is the CCH Tax  Research Network database. Federal, state, and international tax information, state business income tax information and more can be researched here.

    Conference Board
    Full text database of the print version, covering many different aspects of business and economics issues.

    CountryWatch
    All of the countries of the world are listed in this database. Each country is covered in-depth for the following factors: demographics; political, economic, business, cultural, and environmental information.

    FirstSearch <in library only>

    FirstSearch provides access to many useful databases such as Dissertations from North America and Europe, Periodical Abstracts and many more. Search groups of databases (by topic) or by individual database. FirstSearch can also suggest the best database to search, depending on your search terms.

    Ask at the Information Desk for a librarian to log you on with a password.

    General Reference Center Gold

    Run a search for articles under the subject of 'Public Administration' and you will be able to get links to that and related topics, such as bureaucracy, civic organizations, government productivity, and policy sciences.

    GPO Access

    The U.S. Government Printing Office disseminates official information from all three branches of the Federal Government.

    HeinOnline <Legal Periodicals>

    You are able to search HeinOnline's four major collections: Law Journal Library, Federal Register Library, Treaties and Agreements Library, and the U.S. Supreme Court Library.  

    Homeland Security Digital Library

    This database provides access to U.S. policy documents, presidential directives, and national security documents, as well as theses and reports from academic institutions and local and state organizations.

    Informe - Revistas en Espanol

    This is a collection of Spanish language articles covering a wide variety of topics.

    InfoTrac OneFile 

    Comprehensive database of more than 11,000 journals, dating back to 1980. 

    IRIS - University of Illinois Researcher Information Service

    The IRIS Database, updated daily, currently contains over 8,600 active federal and private funding opportunities in the sciences, social sciences, arts, and humanities. In addition to funding opportunities for faculty, the IRIS Database also contains fellowships and scholarships for grad students and undergrads.

    LegalTrac

    Over 1,400 titles comprise this law database, which has law reviews, legal newspapers, bar association journals and more. 

    LexisNexis Academic Universe

    Worldwide sources of news, wire services, TV and radio broadcasts, as well as blogs, web publications and legal information. Good for current information on municipal government. You may isolate your search to a certain state or region.

    Lexis/Nexis Statistical Universe

    If you're looking for statistics, this is your source! With over 30,000 tables of statistical information, search by keyword, then limit it by geographic area, demographics, economics, and more.

    NBER Working Papers

    National Bureau of Economic Research publications, which can be downloaded. We have the print publications in the library.

    Newspapers - Current (ProQuest)

    WestLaw <in library only>

    WestLaw provides legal and business information spanning a variety of jurisdictions, practice areas and disciplines, including federal and state statutes, cases, federal regulations, public records, news, business and financial information, insurance, etc. Available only to faculty, staff and students in the Paralegal Program. Consult a librarian or paralegal program faculty member for access.

    American Society for Public Administration (ASPA)

    ASPA, established in 1939, is the largest and most prominent professional association in the field of public administration. The ASPA website offers information about the association and its activities, full text of one of its publications, PA Times, and indexing to the other, the Public Administration Review.

    Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management (APPAM)

    "APPAM is dedicated to improving public policy and management by fostering excellence in research, analysis, and education."

    Government Finance Officers Association

    Here you may garner information about the Advanced Government Finance Institute, plus more about committees/groups, job listings and policies and practices.

    The Institute of Management and Administration

    An independent organization with a history of over 20 years, the IOMA focuses on specialized finance areas such as corporate financial management, global sourcing, and law firm management.

    International City Management Association (ICMA)

    Founded in 1914, ICMA is the professional and educational association for administrators serving cities, counties, other local governments, and regional entities around the world. ICMA's mission is to strengthen the quality of local government through professional management.

    International Institute of Administrative Sciences

    OECD: Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development

    The OECD is a group of 30 countries dedicated to democracy, with a large amount of its focus on public service.

    Bureau of Labor Statistics

    The Bureau of Labor Statistics is the "principal fact-finding agency for the Federal Government in the broad field of labor economics and statistics."

    Census of Governments

    US Census Bureau.  Published every five years (years ending in 7 and 2.) Provides statistics on state and local government, including finance, employment, and organizational characteristics.

    FedStats

    A portal to statistics from 100+ United States agencies.

    OECD Statistics

    The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development's economic indicators and industry and trade statistics.
