Rebecca D. Johnson joined the University of New Haven in 1980 as director of the Student Center. A seasoned professional in higher education, she was successively promoted to director of residential life, associate dean of students, dean of students, associate provost for student affairs and dean of students, before being named associate vice president for student affairs and dean of students in 2009 and vice president for student affairs in 2016.
She has led the development of many key initiatives during her tenure, including the residential life program, SOAR (Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration), the Charger Compact and living-learning communities. She holds professional memberships in the American College Personnel Association, the Association for Student Conduct Administration and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in comparative government from Skidmore College and a master's degree in college student personnel administration from Michigan State University.
