About Karen

My career has combined professional experience in writing, journalism, public relations and marketing with a deep love for teaching. I was lucky enough to be able to combine these interests here at the University of New Haven, where I have taught full-time since 2005. My work with students has allowed me to continue to explore my interests and help young people gain the practical knowledge combined with the theoretical to succeed in these fields. I have also been able to continue my journalistic writing, as a theater critic and theater journalist. In my career I have had many highlights but certainly one was assisting the White House in coordinating state and regional media during a visit by President Clinton to Connecticut.

Interests

Professionally I have wide ranging interests. First is theater criticism/journalism, but I have been interested in exploring media images of women, how differences in male/female communication impact the corporate world, and the role media plays in setting the political and public agenda.

My personal writing reflects these issues. I am currently working on a book that connects theater songs with personal memories.
