Ice Workshop Travel Information

How do I arrange for travel to the workshop?

We have some funds to assist non-UNH faculty with their travel expenses to/from UNH and the amount depends on your campus location. Up to $300 for Boston U., Bucknell, Union College, Villanova, and Western New England U. All other KEEN Institutions up to $750. You must provide receipts for reimbursement. Forms for reimbursement will be provided at the workshop and submitted to UNH.

To help you plan, here is some info:

The workshop is set to start Monday, June 2 at 8:30am. For those staying at our conference housing please plan to arrive on Sunday, June 1. The workshop will end Friday, June 6, at 12pm. Please don’t make arrangements that necessitate your departure prior to that time. (Info regarding conference housing will be posted separately)

Airport access:

UNH is located 55mi south from BDL (Hartford, CT). We are looking into having a shuttle from there to UNH – stay tuned for more info.

New York has 3 airports: we are 70mi from LGA, 80mi from JFK, or 92mi from EWR.      Traffic to/from the New York airports is sometimes an issue and should carefully be considered.   Go Airport Shuttle (available only from LaGuardia or JFK Airports) goes directly to UNH and costs about $75 each way. For more information, and to make a reservation visit or call (866-284-3247 or 203-891-1280).  EWR is accessible via Amtrak train; please check availability and schedules carefully

Our local airport is Tweed New Haven (HVN) that is serviced by US Airways via Philadelphia.  Flights are limited and small, so booking in advance is necessary or else prices get very expensive.  HVN is just a 15-20 min taxi ride from campus.

Train Access:

Amtrak trains, Metro North trains and Peter Pan buses all make regular stops at the New Haven railroad and bus station (Union Station), which is located in Downtown New Haven. From there you can take a quick five-minute taxi ride to campus. Metro Taxi New Haven Telephone number is (203) 777-7777. Metro North trains also stop at the new West Haven railroad station.

For those driving:

Mileage will be reimbursed at $0.565 /mi. Tolls reimbursed with receipt or copy of your E-ZPass® statement.  No reimbursement provided for gas.
