Graduates of the Electrical engineering program find challenging employment opportunities with companies such as Sikorsky Aircrafts, Pratt & Whitney, Electric Boat, IBM, AT&T, the Boeing company as well as large number of smaller companies.
The internship program is intended to enrich the academic experience of our undergraduate students, providing exposure to and participation in a working engineering environment.
Goals of Internship Program
- To facilitate successful partnerships that are mutually beneficial to the student, participating industry and the department.
- To provide students with applied experience related to Electrical or Computer Engineering that complement classroom learning.
- To encourage students to interact, network and collaborate.
- To develop creative and rewarding internship related activities that encourage students to participate and excel.
- To enhance participating students’ independence, responsibility, and self-confidence.
- To assist students in gaining experience with interpersonal relationships, cooperation with co-workers, and communication skills.
- To create opportunities for the exchange of ideas, research and expertise between students, faculty and employers.
The Internship Program will adhere to the following guidelines:
- Internship program includes a minimum of 300 hours performing engineering or related duties relevant to Electrical and Computer Engineering in a related industry.
- The internship position will begin after the student has completed at least 60 credit hours towards the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE).
- The Internship will not be for credit. A grade of satisfactory will be recorded on the student’s transcript after the successful completion of the internship. All EE students are required to fulfill their internship obligations prior to graduation.
- Students may utilize TCoE resources, the University’s Career Development office along with leads for internship positions provided to the faculty by various industries.
- The EE internship coordinator must approve all internship positions.
- Students may use their co-op positions, summer employment, and part-time or full-time positions that are relevant to their major to fulfill the goals of this internship. In such cases, the request by the student should accompany documentations such as type of experience undertaken and duration. The approval is granted only after a review process is completed by the internship coordinator and the student’s employer(s).
- The internship requirement may be waived for those students who employed part-time or full-time in relevant fields. Any waiver or substitution will be granted only after a review process is completed by the department/internship coordinator. A request for waiver is initiated by the student one year prior to his or her anticipated graduation date.
