Why did you choose the University of New Haven and what attracted you to your graduate
I selected the University of New Haven's EMBA program for three reasons. First and foremost, I was drawn to the integrated
curriculum. I value an integrated approach that strategically weaves in multiple elements
of the business curriculum and continually connects the workings of one subject with
another. Secondly, the University of New Haven's curriculum schedule fit best within the demands of my professional and personal
life. Meeting every three weeks provides me the right balance to successfully complete
the program. Lastly, the University of New Haven's program offered me the most advantageous veterans’ benefits. After 24 years of
service, I am happy to be in a position where I can utilize both the Post 9/11 G.I.
Bill as well as the University of New Haven’s Yellow Ribbon program to fund my education.
How have your experiences at the University of New Haven helped prepare you for your desired career path?
My experiences at the University of New Haven have enabled me to interact with professionals from a variety of industries and various
business structures. The student cohort is made up of individuals from corporate America,
privately owned business and the nonprofit sector. Interacting with them has substantially
increased my awareness of the various challenges faced within each environment. The
knowledge gained through my instructors has provided me with the financial skills
to effectively manage a profit-and-loss statement as well as the organizational behavior
skills to ensure that I am performing effectively as a leader.
Tell us about a memorable hands-on learning experience such as a class project, applied
research or an internship that you have participated in.
I was part of a four-member group that conducted a case study on the organic grocery
store Whole Foods, Inc. We evaluated Whole Foods utilizing all the disciplines that
had been taught throughout the module – finance, accounting, economics, quantitative
analysis and IT. This allowed us the opportunity to showcase and utilize the knowledge
and tools that we had gained as a result of all of our coursework.
What are your post-graduation plans?
My post-graduation plans are to continue my professional growth through continued
challenges and opportunities within the aerospace industry. I have a passion for leadership
and look forward to new opportunities to teach, coach, mentor and lead employees in
positions of increasing responsibility.
