Manya Makoski

Manya Makoski is in her second season as a coach for the UNH women’s soccer program. She served as a volunteer assistant coach in 2006 and was also a graduate assistant for game management/promotions.

Makoski, a 2006 graduate of Division I Arizona State University, continues to play at a high level for the U.S. Under-21 National Team and head coach Bill Irwin. Manya recently helped the team win the U-23 Nordic Cup in Germany, and also trained with the U-21 national team in Portland, Oregon. She has played on the U-21 national team since 2003 and was a member of the 2002 U-19 World Cup Team that won the FIFA World Championships in Edmonton, Alberta. In August 2007, she competed in the U.S. Soccer Hall of Fame game in Oneonta, N.Y., alongside legends Mia Hamm and Julie Foudy on the weekend that they were inducted into the Hall.

Makoski was a four-year standout for ASU, playing in 79 matches for the Sun Devils. Manya was a four-time All-Pacific 10 Conference selection, earning First Team honors as a junior and Second Team honors three times. She was also an Academic All-Conference selection.

She logged 24 goals and 22 assists for 70 points in her career, including five game-winning goals. She ranks seventh all-time at ASU in career assists, and is eighth in both goals and points. Manya had nine assists as a freshman in 2002, setting the school’s all-time single-season record and earning Freshman All-America honors from Soccer America and Soccer Buzz. She was also a Third Team All-Region selection by the NSCAA.

A native of Trumbull, Conn., and a graduate of Trumbull High School, Manya’s high school awards are too numerous to fully list. She was the 2002 Gatorade High School Player of the Year in Connecticut, and was the NSCAA/adidas Connecticut Player of the Year and Parade All-American in 2001. She was also Connecticut Junior Soccer Association Player of the Year in 2001. She led Trumbull to three Class LL state championships, in 1998, 1999 and 2001.

Manya holds a U.S. Soccer Federation Class “E” license. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in journalism from ASU in 2006 and was a member of ASU’s Barrett’s Honors College. She is currently finishing an MBA at UNH.
