Danielle Wexler

 Assistant Coach
Fourth Season
Hartford, 2006

Danielle Wexler is in her fourth season as assistant coach for the University of New Haven women’s basketball team after joining head coach Jessica Smith’s Charger staff in July, 2006.

“Coaching is in Danielle's blood and she is passionate about teaching basketball and the University of New Haven," says head coach Jessica Smith. "Danielle has had a number of valuable experiences while playing at the University of Hartford under Jennifer Rizzotti. She will be expected to impress upon our team what it takes to make the NCAA tournament and win in the tournament.”

Wexler was a standout for head coach Jennifer Rizzotti at the University of Hartford from 2002-06. She started all 31 games for the school’s record-breaking 2005-06 club, which went 27-4 and won an NCAA Tournament game for the first time in Hawks history. She averaged 6.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game for that 2005-06 NCAA Tournament team, which won the America East title and then scored a victory over Temple in the first round of the NCAA Tourney.

As a junior the previous season, Wexler set what was then a school record with 49 three-pointers and 153 attempts.

“Danielle will be responsible for the development of our guards,” said Smith. “She is a great teacher and understands how much to demand out of the team to get results. She began as a role player and worked to become a vital starter on the 27-4 Hartford team. Danielle will also be responsible for conditioning, scouting, film exchange, recruiting, and alumnae relations.”

“I am very excited to be a part of the University of New Haven family and the successful Charger athletic program,” Wexler said at the time of her hiring. “I am looking forward to learning a lot under Coach Smith and bringing what I learned from my college career of playing basketball under Jennifer Rizzotti. It’s an honor to become an assistant coach at UNH and I look forward to contributing my knowledge and also experiencing this great opportunity to help student athletes become the best they can be.”

A native of Newtown, Pa., Wexler earned her bachelor’s degree in pscyhology from the University of Hartford in 2006. As a student-athlete, Danielle worked numerous basketball camps and clinics and also gave instructional lessons. She currently resides in Branford, Conn.
