Kevin LaSure began at UNH in 2007-08 as head coach of both men's and women's cross country and track & field teams.
LaSure had served as the Chargers' assistant cross country/track & field coach for the two years prior while also a management assistant at Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Milford, Conn. As a member of the UNH staff, he was responsible for coaching the track teams' sprinters and jumpers, as well as serving as assistant cross country coach during the fall seasons.
A 2004 graduate of UNH with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice/Investigative Services, LaSure also completed a Master's degree in Labor Relations at UNH in 2006.
"I am extremely excited about this new opportunity as head coach of cross country and track & field," LaSure said. "With the tremendous amount of talent we have returning, as well as exciting new additions to the team, I look forward to a very productive and rewarding year."
UNH has had strong showings at the conference and regional level in recent seasons with LaSure on the coaching staff. The Chargers' cross country programs both finished third in the East Coast Conference last year, with Melissa Tempesta capturing the women's individual championship. The men's team finished eighth at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships and the women's team saw two individuals earn All-Region honors with top-15 finishes. The men's cross country team was also eighth at the Regional in 2005 after both the men and women finished as runners-up at the league championships.
During the track seasons, UNH has had success in the sprints and jumps under LaSure's tutelage. Last year, Jynika Craig captured indoor 55-meter and long jump championships and Angel Colandrea and Tyler Parker were both tops in the league in the 55-meter hurdles. Craig also finished sixth at the New England Championships last outdoor season, after placing second in the long jump, triple jump and 100-dash at the league championships. UNH posted ten all-conference finishes in sprint or jump events at the ECC outdoor meet during the spring.
Additionally, the UNH cross country/track & field programs have had four individuals earn national academic recognition from the U.S.A. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USATFCCCA) in the past two years.
As an undergraduate, Kevin was a wide receiver on UNH's football team from 2000-2003 and ran on the Charger track & field team from 2001-2005. He won the track team's Sportsmanship Award in both 2004 and 2005, and was an All-New England performer in the 200- and 400-meter dashes as well as on the 4x100- and 4x400-meter relay teams. A native of Newark, N.J., LaSure was a multiple-time all-county selection in track & field and earned all-State parochial and all-America honors on Essex Catholic High School's 4x200-meter relay team.
