First SeasonKaren Costes enters her first season on the Chargers’ bench in 2009.
She played softball collegiately at Central Connecticut State University for four years where she was a two-time Academic All-American and earned Second Team All-Northeast Conference honors as a junior after batting .300 with 45 hits, 25 runs scored and seven stolen bases.
Costes also has experience playing baseball as she was an all star with the North American Women's Baseball League (NAWBL). Her proformance in the NAWBL earned her a spot on the 2008 USA Baseball Women’s National Team that participated in the Women’s Baseball World Cup in Japan last summer. She started five of six games in the outfield for bronze medal winning Team USA and had a batting average of .250 with one home run, five RBIs and two stolen bases. Costes helped guide the team to a 4-2 record, including a pair of victories over Australia and wins against Chinese Taipei and India.
