Stan Holmes is back at the University of New Haven for the return Charger football and will serve as the Chargers' running backs coach.
Prior to UNH, Holmes had stints at both Central Connecticut State and Southern Connecticut State. He served two stints as the running backs coach at Central from 1994-98 and from 2004-07. In 2006, Holmes coached Justice Harriston, the Blue Devil's first player drafted to the NFL, in the sixth round to the New England Patriots. Harriston was the Northeast Conference Offensive Player of the Year, while leading the I-AA division in rushing yards. While Holmes as at Central Connecticut the team won back-to-back NEC Championships in 2004 and 2005.
In addition to a season at Southern Connecticut in 2003, Holmes served as an assistant at UNH from 1999-01 under then head coach Darren Rizzi.
A 1984 graduate of Cal-State Hayward, Holmes played his collegiate career for the Pioneers and started at running back.
