West Haven, Conn. -- Junior Drew Kirkeby (photo) had 17 kills on .407 hitting to lead the University of New Haven men's volleyball team to a sweep of Endicott College. The Chargers prevailed by scores of 30-19, 34-32 and 30-28.

Kirkeby increased his season average to 5.53 kills per game in leading New Haven (3-1) past Endicott (5-3). It was the first time this season that Kirkeby failed to get beyond the 20-kill mark, but he got his 17 kills efficiently on .407 hitting and served up a match-high three aces.

Junior Chris Lennon posted his second double-double this season with 10 kills and 13 digs despite landing awkwardly on his ankle in the third game. Freshman Peter Kazlas had six kills and three blocks, while Tommy Musto had six kills and nine digs. Setter Kevin Goncalves logged 38 assists on 44 UNH kills, and added eight digs.

For Endicott, A.J. Witkofsky led the way with 13 kills on .385 hitting, adding five blocks for a team-leading 16 points. Ben Foster and Eric Smith led their team with seven digs apiece.

UNH took game one easily, 30-19, but the Gulls battled back in a see-saw game two. It was tied at 27-27, 28-28 and 29-29, but Endicott went ahead 30-29 off a kill by Witkofsky. Kirkeby then slammed one home for UNH to re-tie the score 30-30, but Smith killed a ball to make it 31-30. The Chargers again staved off game point when Foster's serve was no good, but the Gulls got a kill from Matt Keepin to make the score 32-31 in their favor.

UNH used its second time out, and Kirkeby came out swinging to make it 32-32, another game point saved. A kill by Lennon followed by an attack error by Matt Keepin finally ended the second game in UNH's favor.

The Chargers now head out on the road for eight straight matches, beginning this weekend at the MIT Invitational. They will play four matches in Cambridge, Mass., before opening EIVA play on Wednesday, February 14 at New Jersey Institute of Technology.

UNH's next home match is Tuesday, March 6.
