(09-12-09) FAIRFIELD, Conn- The University of New Haven men's and women's cross country teams competed in their first invitational of the season Saturday morning at Fairfield University. The men's team placed third (of five) in the 8K run with a total time of 2:19:41 and the women's team placed fifth (of seven) in the 5K run with a total time of 1:49:35.
The men were led by Matt Dunham who finished in 12th place with a time of 27:07. Freshman Samuel Montclair finished 15th overall with a time of 27:31. Ryan Freitas and Alaric Best, also placed top 20 for the Chargers. Freitas finished 17th with a time of 27:43, while Best finished 18th with a time of 27:55.
For the women, junior Lauren DiMitruck led the team with a 30th place finish with a time of 20:20. Freshman Dominique Stasulli placed 39th with a time of 20:31and freshman Tania Bernadino finished 47th with a time of 21:03.
The Chargers' cross country teams returns to action on Saturday, September 26 at the Victor F. Leeber, S.J. Invitational in Fairfield, Conn.
