Gagne Earns All-American Honors, Finished Fifth in the 200-Meter Championship

(05-23-09) SAN ANGELO, Texas - University of New Haven women's track and field sprinter Shannon Gagne finished fifth in the NCAA Division II women's 200-meter outdoor championship race on Saturday night at Angelo State University in Texas.

Along with her fifth place finish, she earned All-American honors and scored four points for the Chargers at the national meet. During the indoor season, Gagne became New Haven's first women's track and field student-athlete to earn All-American status.

With a time of 23.91 seconds, Gagne finished two one-hundredths out of fourth place. In Friday's prelims she broke the UNH record and now holds the mark at 23.71 seconds.

The Chargers outdoor season concludes today. Gagne joined freshman Kevin Downing at the NCAA Championships this week as the Chargers top performers this season.
