Gagne Advances to 200-Meter Finals in Record Time

(05-22-09) SAN ANGELO, Texas - University of New Haven women's track and field student-athlete Shannon Gagne ran a new personal and UNH record in the NCAA Division II 200-meter dash prelims Friday night in San Angelo, Texas and qualified for tomorrow's finals heat.

Gagne set the new UNH 200-meter record at 23.70 seconds, earlier in the season she broke the previous record with a time of 24.33 seconds. She qualified in fourth place, nearly seven-tenths from the top qualifier.

The junior advances to the finals which will take place tomorrow at 9:24 p.m. at Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas.

Freshman Kevin Downing, who also qualified for the 200-meter prelims, unfortunately aggravated a leg injury in yesterday's 100-meter dash and did not run in today's 200-meter.
