Gagne and Downing Narrowly Miss 200-Meter Finals, 100-Meter Prelims Tomorrow

(05-21-09) SAN ANGELO, Texas - University of New Haven men's and women's track and field student-athletes Shannon Gagne and Kevin Downing both fell just shortly of qualifing for the NCAA Division II finals heat in the 100-meter dash at Nationals in San Angelo, Texas Thursday evening. Gagne finished third in her heat and ninth overall while Downing seventh in his heat and 13th overall.

Gagne finished in a UNH all-time best 11.81 seconds in the 100-meter. In 13th place, Downing finished in a time of 10.75 seconds.

Gagne also finished in 12th place in the women's long jump finals which took place later on Thursday. Her longest jump was 5.66 meters.

Both Gagne and Downing run in the 100-meter prelims Friday evening. The women's prelims start at 7 p.m. (eastern) and the men's follows at 7:15 p.m. (eastern). They were both also named the East Region Track Athletes of the Year earlier this week by the USTFCCCA.
