Gagne Sets 200-Meter and 100-Meter Records at All-New England Championships

(05-09-09) AMHERST, Mass. - The University of New Haven outdoor women's track and field team was led by junior Shannon Gagne at the 2009 All-New England Championships on the UMass campus in Amherst Saturday.

Gagne broke the UNH record with a time of 24.23 seconds in the 200-meter dash. That time places her 13th in the nation this season. The Meriden, Connecticut native also finished in fourth place inthe 100-meter dash, tying her UNH record of 11.96 seconds. In the prelims, Gagne ran a UNH record 11.83 seconds.

The only other points the Chargers earned came in the 4x100 meter relay. New Haven finished in 13th place with a time of 50.21 seconds.

Gagne and men's outdoor track athlete Kevin Downin have both provisionally qualified for the NCAA Nationals meet which takes place in two week in San Angelo, Texas. The NCAA will announce the complete men's and women's nationals fields on Monday or Tuesday.
