(04-25-09) PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Four University of New Haven relay teams competed at the Penn Relays this weekend at Franklin Stadium on the University of Pennsylvania. Two men's teams and two women's teams ran at the event.
On the men's side, the 4x100 meter team of Justin Smith, Kevin Downing, Tyrone Sawyer and Jelani Joslyn finished in 50th place with a time of 42.46 seconds. The time was one of the best Division II times in the heats. The 4x200 meter team of Sawyer, Downing, Tyler Parker and Sylvestre Maldonado finished in 39th place with a time of 1:29.61. They were also one of the top Division II teams in the heats.
The women were led by a third place finish in the 4x400 meter. Ayana Myers, Shannon Gagne, Alesha Chu Foo and Danielle Howell finished with a time of 4:08.67. The women's 4x100 team of Howell, Gagne, LaShawn Tillery and Myers finished in 68th place.
The UNH men's and women's outdoor track and field teams return to action on Saturday, May 2 when they travel to the Northeast-10 Outdoor Championships in Lowell, Mass.
