Women's Lacrosse Drops Second Straight in 14-11 Loss to No. 2 C.W. Post

(04-08-09) BROOKVILLE N.Y. - The University of New Haven women's lacrosse team fell 14-11 Wednesday afternoon to the nationally ranked No. 2 C.W. Post Pioneers. The loss drops the Chargers to 9-2 overall, while the Pioneers improve to 8-1 on the season.

The Pioneers scored first Wednesday with a goal just 18 seconds into the game. Brianna Kenworthy scored the Chargers first goal nearly 40 seconds later before C.W. Post went on a 3-0 run to take a 4-1 lead. Ashley Ferrandiz scored the Chargers second goal to bring UNH within two in the ninth minute. The Pioneers pulled away with four of the last six goals of the first half and held an 8-4 lead at halftime.

Over the course of the first 17 minutes Mallory Ferrandiz led the Chargers on a 4-2 run to cut the C.W. Post lead to two. The Pioneers pulled away again with three scores in the 20th, 21st and 22nd minutes. Alexis Gabbe netted the Charger ninth goal to bring UNH within four in the 24th minute.

The Chargers scored two of the last three goals, but fell by a final score of 14-11.

Mallory Ferrandiz led the Chargers with four goals, while Gabbe added three scores. Brigid Brady added two goals, while Ashley Ferrandiz and Kenworthy each scored one as well.

The Chargers return to action on Saturday, April 11 when they travel to take on Southern New Hampshire in a Northeast-10 Conference game. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
