(04-04-09) NEW LONDON, Conn. - The University of New Haven men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Coast Guard Invitationaly on Saturday afternoon in New London, Connecticut. The men finished fifth with 55 team points and the women came in fourth place with 83 points.
The Chargers were led by Kevin Downing with a first place finish in the 100-meter dash (10.63). Other top finishers for New Haven included Michael Stevenson fourth in the 200 (23.57) and eighth in the 100 (11.70) and Tyler Parker second in the 110-meter hurdles (16.61).
The women were led by a pair of first place finishes by Ayana Myers in the 200-meter dash (27.10) and the 400-meter dash (1:00.30). Other top finishers for the women included Shannon Gagne with a first place finish in the 100 (12.20) and Lauren DiMitruck with a third place finish in the 1500 (4:59.41) and seventh in the 800 (2:29.67). Also, the 4x100-meter relay team took first place in a time of 49.71.
The Chargers return to action on Saturday, April 11 at the UMass-Lowell George Davis Invitational.
