Softball Splits Twin Bill At Dowling

(03-24-09) OAKDALE, N.Y. - The University of New Haven softball team split a twin bill at Dowling College Tuesday afternoon. The Chargers won the opening game 3-1 and fell in the second, 5-1. The Chargers move to 7-5 on the season and the Golden Lions now stand at 9-11.

Game One
The Chargers were the first to score in the opening game Tuesday with two runs in the top of the third inning. Chelsea Harold scored on an error and Jessica Medina drove in Meghan Walter to give UNH a 2-0 lead. The Chargers added one in the top of the sixth before the Golden Lions scored their only run in the bottom of the inning.

Breanne Gleason went 2-for-2 at the plate and also pitched ten strikeouts to earn the win for UNH. Amy Nepi went 2-for-3 and Walter went 1-for-2 with a run scored.

Game Two
New Haven scored one run in the opening inning and held that lead until the fourth inning of game two. The Golden Lions scored two in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead. Dowling added three runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a 5-1 lead. The Chargers left two runners on base in the sixth and seventh innings before suffering the loss.

Walter went 2-for-3 and scored the Chargers only run in the loss. Medina also went 2-for-3 and drove in the Chargers only run. Gleason pitched four and 2/3 innings, threw two strikeouts and suffered the loss.

The Chargers return to action on Thursday, March 26 when they travel to Adelphi University. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
