(03-19-09) KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The University of New Haven softball team defeated Minnesota-Moorhead 10-2 and Wisconsin-Parkside 3-0 Thursday morning at the Rebel Spring Games in Florida. The Chargers improve to 6-2 overall with the pair of wins.
Game One
The Chargers beat Minnesota-Moorhead for the second time this week, 10-2 in their opening game on Thursday. Jessica Medina opened scoring with a solo homerun in the top of the second inning and Gabby Cruz hit another homer in the top of the third to give the Chargers a 2-0 lead. The Dragons then answered by scoring a run in bottom half of the third and fourth innings to tie the score at 2-2. The Chargers then rattled off eight runs, including two successful suicide squeezes, in the fifth inning and secured their fifth win in the last five days. Breanne Gleason tallied three strikeouts in the win.
Game Two
New Haven earned their sixth win of the week in a 3-0 win over Wisconsin-Parkside Thursday afternoon. Nicole Downs scored on a solo homerun in the fourth inning for the Chargers game-winning RBI. Gleason hit a two run bomb in the fifth inning to give the Chargers a three-run cushion. Gleason also threw seven strikeouts and earned her third shutout of the season.
The Chargers return to action tomorrow for their final two games of the 2009 Rebel Spring Games. UNH takes on No. 19 Nebraska-Omaha at 1 p.m. followed by Augustana at 5 p.m.
