(03-17-09) KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The University of New Haven softball team defeated Minnesota-Duluth 3-0 and fell 7-4 to Southwest Minnesota State Tuesday afternoon at the Rebel Spring Games in Florida. The Chargers move their record to 4-2 on the season.
Game One
The Chargers, playing their fifth and sixth games in three days, opened Tuesday with a tough 7-4 loss to Southwest Minnesota State. UNH scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning off a double from Meghan Walter. They added two more in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 4-3 lead going into the seventh. UNH gave up a three run homer in the seventh which gave the Mustangs the lead for good.
Game Two
One innings was all the Chargers needed in their second game of the day, a 3-0 win over Minnesota-Duluth. In the bottom of the third inning Walter hit a single which drove in Chelsea Harold for UNH's first run. Nicole Downs then drove in Breanne Gleason with a single and Jessica Medina drove in Downs with a double to give the Chargers a 3-0 lead. Duluth had loaded the bases with one out in the top of the fourth inning, but Amy Nepi turned a double play to save Gleason's shutout victory. Gleason earned her fourth win of the season while throwing eight strikeouts.
The Chargers have tomorrow off and return to action on Thursday, March 19 against Minnesota-Moorhead at 9 a.m. and Wisconsin-Parkside at 11 a.m.
