Softball Sweeps Central Missouri and Wayne State at Rebel Games

(03-16-09) KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The University of New Haven softball team defeated Wayne State (Mich.) 1-0 and Central Missouri 3-2 Monday evening at the Spring Rebel Games in Florida. The Chargers improve to 3-1 with the wins.

Game One
The Chargers opened Monday with a game versus Wayne State (Mich.). Nicole Downs hit a solo homerun and scored the game's only run. Breanne Gleason earned her second win of the season in six complete innings with six strikeouts.

Game Two
In their second game of the day the Chargers took on preseason No. 19 Central Missouri. UNH opened scoring in the third inning when Chelsea Harold scored off a Downs sacrifice fly. The Chargers scored their last two runs in the fifth inning. Meghan Walters and Downs both hit singles to get on base (on first and second). Jessica Medina then stepped to the plate and hit a double which driving in Walters and Downs.

The Chargers return to action at the Rebel Games tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. against Southwest Minnesota State. They concluded their sixth-game in three days at 11 a.m. against Minnesota-Duluth.
