(03-16-09) WINTER PARK, Fla. - Sophomore midfielder Ashley Ferrandiz broke the Chargers' single-game points record with seven goals and two assists, while leading the No. 8 University of New Haven women's lacrosse team to a 25-11 victory over Franklin Pierce Monday afternoon. With the win the Chargers improve to 3-0 on the season and 2-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10), while the Ravens drop their first contest of the season.

The Chargers quickly took over Monday's game, which was played at Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla. In less than 30 seconds, UNH's Sarah Magnone scored to give the Chargers a quick 1-0 lead. Just over 30 seconds later and before a full minute had run off the clock, Ferrandiz scored her first goal of the game. New Haven scored 5 of the next 7 goals to take a 7-2 lead with 22:37 left in the first half. Franklin Pierce scored three of the next four goals and cut the UNH lead to 8-5. The Chargers rattled off 12 more first-half scores and held the Ravens to two goals, while securing a 20-7 halftime lead.

The second half was much quieter than the first as UNH scored just five times in the second period. Brianna Kenworthy scored the first goal of the second half, with 26:20 left on the clock. The Ravens then scored three unanswered goals between the 18:52 mark and the 11:52 mark to cut the Chargers lead to 21-10, but UNH answered with their own 4-1 run to close the game.

The Chargers held a 49-15 advantage in shots and a 23-15 advantage in draw controls. The Chargers were also successful on 20-of-24 clear attempts.

Adding to her nine points, Ferrandiz grabbed five ground balls. Brigid Brady scored four goals and picked up three ground balls and Mallory Ferrandiz tallied three goals, one assist and three ground balls for the Chargers. Sarah LeGoff, Alexis Gabbe and Kenworthy all scored two goals for UNH, while Missy Carney, Lisa Barnard, Magnone, Kristine Lambracht and Stephanie Usseglio each added one goal. Maureen Spellman earned her third win between the posts for the Chargers.
