Gagne Races to Seventh Place Finish at Nationals and Earns First-Ever All-American Honors

(03-14-09) HOUSTON, Texas - Sophomore Shannon Gagne finished seventh in the 200-meter dash finals at the NCAA Division II National Championship on Saturday evening, becoming the first University of New Haven women's track and field student-athlete ever to score points at the national meet and earn All-American honors. She finished in a time of 24.91, bettering the 25.00 time she posted in the prelims.

Samoy Hackett of Lincoln University (Mo.) won the 200-meter dash in a time of 23.83.

Gagne's finish gave the women's team two points, tying it for 43rd place. Lincoln captured the team national championship with 100.50 points.

Gagne capped of an exception indoor season that included three individual titles  at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships (55-meter dash, 200-meter dash and long jump) and setting school records three events (200-meter dash, long jump and 4x400-meter relay).
