UNH Track and Field Records Fall at Lafayette-Rider Invitational

(02-13-09) NEW YORK, N.Y. - The University of New Haven indoor track and field teams competed at the Lafayette-Rider Invitational Friday night. Three school records fell and two UNH runners provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship.

On the women's side, Shannon Gagne led the Chargers by finishing third in the 60 meter dash with a new school record of 7.77 seconds, which provisionally qualifies her for the NCAA Championships. Gagne also finished third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.02 seconds. Ashley Hardy broke the UNH record in the 1000 meter with a time of 3:10.33. She finished sixth overall. Lauren DiMitruck ran a personal best in the mile with a time of 5:19.63.

Kevin Downing led the UNH men by winning the 200 meter dash with a new UNH record of 21.66 seconds. Downing also finished 14th in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.08 seconds. That time qualifies him for the New England Championships. Tyrone Sawyer finished fourth in the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.94 seconds and Mark Kichar ran a new personal best time time of 1:07.64 in the 500 meter.

The Chargers return to action on Saturday, February 21 at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship which will be hosted by Southern Connecticut.
