(11-10-08) WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The University of New Haven football team recently volunteered with Habitat for Humanity in downtown New Haven. According to the Habitat for Humanity website, Habitat invites people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need. Habitat has built nearly 300,000 houses around the world, providing more than 1.5 million people in more than 3,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter. The New Haven football team spent six hours helping Habitat set up for its annual tag sale. The Chargers had to move window frames, laundry machines and other items into place for the tag sale. The event raised over $5,000 which will be used towards a new housing shelter in the greater New Haven area.
"This experience has provided our student athletes an opportunity to get out and engage with a local community that is always in need of help," said Head Coach Peter Rossomando. "Habitat for Humanity is an incredible organization and we are thankful to have had the chance to work with them. We will definitely be looking to be involved with them again in the future."
