WEST HAVEN, Conn. -- The University of New Haven is seeded third for the 2008 East Coast Conference Softball Championships, and the Chargers will host No. 6 Dowling College in a Quarterfinal round game on Wednesday, April 30 at 3:00 p.m.
UNH is 23-17 overall and finished 12-8 in the ECC, good for third place in the standings. The Chargers were ranked fifth in the most recent NCAA Northeast Regional rankings, released April 23.
Dowling, which split a doubleheader at UNH on April 25, wrapped its regular season at 27-28, 9-11 and captured the final playoff spot. The Golden Lions won the opening game at UNH on the 25th, 4-0, before the Chargers prevailed 5-4 in eight innings in the nightcap.
Dowling and UNH have a history in the ECC Championships, with the Golden Lions defeating the Chargers twice in the 2007 tournament to eliminate UNH from the Championships.
